Are There Federal Tax Credits for Energy-Efficiency Improvements?

Tax credits

Are you seeking to improve the energy efficiency of your South Florida home and HVAC system? If you do, you’ll have a lot to be thankful for! When you make qualifying improvements to benefit your home’s energy-efficiency, you could be eligible for a range of federal tax credit savings. Call Lindstrom Air Conditioning and Plumbing to schedule your home updates and learn more about the benefits that come with them.

What is ENERGY STAR®?

ENERGY STAR® is a program backed by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) that helps consumers understand which products are the most energy efficient on the market. Reduced energy means fewer carbon emissions, which helps save the environment and also helps save you money on your energy bills.

ENERGY STAR® products include washers, dryers, refrigerators, and even light bulbs. You’ll also find the ENERGY STAR® seal on many of the air conditioners, water heaters, and heat pumps sold by our partners at Carrier and installed by our professional Lindstrom technicians.

How do I get my tax credits?

If you are operating an ENERGY STAR® high-efficiency HVAC system in your home, you could be eligible for a federal tax credit this year. To verify your eligibility, ask your Lindstrom HVAC expert for the Manufacturer Certification Statement on the equipment you plan to purchase to include with your tax return. Note that the unit must be installed in an existing home that is considered your principal residence (rentals and new builds are not eligible).

What is the value of these tax credits?

The ENERGY STAR®–rated products installed in your home can get you a tax credit for 10% of the cost (up to $500) or a specific amount ranging from $50 to $300 depending on the product. For example, heat pumps that are ENERGY STAR®–certified can earn you a $300 tax credit, and so can air conditioners that are recognized as ENERGY STAR® Most Efficient.

How do I keep my system running efficiently?

If you want to save even more money beyond your federal tax credits, we recommend keeping your air conditioning system up and running with routine maintenance. As your HVAC system runs regularly, it accumulates debris that causes it to operate less efficiently.

You’ll save big on your energy bills and future repair costs with Lindstrom’s comprehensive 19-point precision tune-up. And if you don’t see the savings reflected on your utility bill, we’ll refund your money, no questions asked!
