October is Breast Cancer Awareness month, and we want to show the women in our lives some extra love and support by bringing awareness and attention to a matter that impacts millions around the globe.
There were 17 million new cases of cancer worldwide in 2018, with the four most common cancer types being breast, lung, bowel and prostate. Moreover, breast cancer is the most common cancer in American women, next to skin cancers. Currently, the average risk of a woman in the United States developing breast cancer sometime in her lifetime is about 12 percent. Although our focus this month is on breast cancer, we also want to bring attention to all varieties of cancer.
The Lindstrom Air Conditioning & Plumbing team holds cancer awareness near and dear to their hearts. A close family member,Bradley Carl Lindstrom, battled an aggressive form of brain cancer in the early 1990s and became an inspiration in our community. Not only did he survive a year and a day longer than predicted, but he was also a leading contributor to the American Cancer Society. In under three months, Bradley was able to raise just under ten percent of the American Cancer Society’s goal. Bradley did not just contribute financially, but he also shared his time, support, and love with others battling cancer. He made it a point to ensure that no one felt they were going through it on their own. Helping others led him to create a support network of cancer patients and survivors. Like Bradley, Susan G. Komen® aims to bring comfort to breast cancer patients and to find a cure.
A great way to help the women in our lives is by making them aware of the causes and symptoms of breast cancer. We can also provide support by donating to charities and organizations that aim to find a cure and increase the quality of life of those who currently have cancer.
